Media makes major false claim about Rangers’ Bosmans

The media is for some reason running a story that Rangers are suddenly not seeking any new free agent signings, after ‘football scotland’ claimed that Nils Koppen has ‘stopped’ the search for Bosmans.

This is staggeringly false, with Rangers being rejected only 36 hours ago for former Inter midfielder Davy Klaasen, and it well-known the club is very much seeking any good opportunities in the free agency market, it being established that what Clement and Koppen did in the window overall wasn’t enough.

We were especially amused by this line from the story:

“Of course, football can change in an instant should an opportunity arise, but no scouting is being prioritised for freebies between now and the January window.”

So, what you mean is everything else you just said isn’t true, and you’re trying to cover your own backside ‘in case’ Rangers make a free agent signing.

No, Rangers are very much interested in Bosman signings, and the recruitment department is actively sounding out possibilities, alongside their usual scouting duties of those under contract and youth players of other clubs.

The squad needs more – a 0-1 win at Tannadice hasn’t just ‘solved’ everything – Rangers are short in both full back positions, a bit weak in midfield, and lack depth on the wings. Attack could be better too.

So make no mistake, Rangers are active in trying to add a few useful Bosmans in there too – the problem with the Bosman market is competition for lucrative free agents is fierce as hell, a free signing who has his pick of Europe is in a strong position and Rangers need to be able to attract such a player over rivals.

On the flip side, ‘why’ are they a free agent – look at what ended up of Ryan Jack, ditto Kemar Roofe.

So it’s a market filled with trepidation too.

But yes, Rangers are actively searching for any useful recruits in that field.
