Manchester United will play hosts to Liverpool at the Old Trafford on Sunday night hoping to pick up a win and proceed into the further stages of the F.A Cup. The home side managed to secure a wondrous comeback win midweek as they emerged victorious over Fulham at the Craven Cottage; however, things have been falling apart for the Reds lately. Having scored just one goal in the last five league games, Liverpool’s woes in the Premier League continued as their 68-match undefeated run at home ended with a narrow 1-0 loss to Burnley on Thursday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will probably opt for the 4-2-3-1 formation with a couple of tweaks from the last game. Marcus Rashford might get the nod over Mason Greenwood whereas Scott McTominay looks likely to make his way back into the starting eleven.

Defence

Dean Henderson is expected to replace David de Gea for the upcoming home encounter. Barring the mistake against Sheffield United, the English shot-stopper has done fairly well to deserve regular starts in the cup ties.

Victor Lindelof missed out on the 2-1 win over Fulham due to the recurrence of a back problem.

“He’s not bad, it’s still his back we’ve got a few issues with, I felt it was better he stayed home, trained a bit and can be ready for the weekend,” Solskjaer revealed.

The Swedish centre-back dropped a brilliant performance last week as he made a whopping nine clearances to help his side secure a clean sheet at Anfield. Nonetheless, Eric Bailly will form the centre-half partnership with skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of United’s backline.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a guaranteed starter at the right-back position whereas Luke Shaw will continue to fill in on the other flank, as the left-back. The former had some nervy moments against Scott Parker’s men, so he’ll be hoping to turn things around this time.

Midfield

As mentioned earlier, Scott McTominay might return to feature against the Reds as he brings in the much-needed defensive coverage to United’s ‘back-four’. Paul Pogba will start in the central midfield position, hoping to repeat his heroics from last week.

Operating as the attacking midfielder, Bruno Fernandes will be looking to return to his goal-scoring ways on Sunday. The Portuguese playmaker has failed to find the back of the net in any of his last four games, so he’ll be eager to end his goal drought.

He’ll be accompanied by Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford on either side, playing on the right and left-wing respectively.

Donny van de Beek might have to settle for a place on the bench but might come on in the latter stages of the game if called upon.

Attack

Edinson Cavani will lead the line for the home side against Liverpool. The Uruguayan striker netted the equaliser on Wednesday night and displayed tremendous energy throughout the ninety minutes.

Mason Greenwood might be brought on to influence the game in the second half.
