Manchester United are back in action on Wednesday as they look to put last weekend’s disappointing result at Leicester behind them. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side took the lead against the Foxes but slipped to an embarrassing 4-2 defeat.

They do, however, have a chance of turning their fortunes around as they welcome Atalanta to Old Trafford for the first ever meeting between the two sides.

There were several underperforming stars in the drab defeat to Leicester at the weekend, with Solskjaer now expected to make wholesale changes to his side as they aim to grab a stronghold of their Champions League group.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is available for the game after having his initial two-match ban reduced whilst it remains to be seen whether Harry Maguire will be fit. The 28-year-old was rushed back into action against Leicester and his indifferent performance left a lot to be desired.

No timeline has been set on Raphael Varane’s injury status but the Frenchman is expected to be missing for the game as he recovers from a muscle injury sustained over the international break.

Fred missed the game at Leicester after playing for Brazil less than 48 hours earlier but is expected to return to the side against the Italian outfit, whilst Scott McTominay should also be given a starting berth after being left out at the weekend.

Marcus Rashford could make his first start of the season after coming off the bench to score at Leicester but Jadon Sancho or Paul Pogba are more likely to play.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Greenwood, Fernandes, Pogba; Ronaldo
