Like in January, Celtic have gone about their transfer business early in this window. Reinforcements have already been added in defence and attack, with more to come.

Fans are delighted with the captures of Siegrist, Bernabei, Carter-Vickers and Jota. The formality of signing Maeda was also announced after another succesfull loan spell.

Postecoglou won’t rest on his laurels however. And captain, Callum McGregor, made a clear statement in his recent interview with Celtic TV that he expects more signings before the window closes:

“The club have done their business early. Hopefully, we can add one or two more faces as well, which would be great.”

Where do Celtic need to strengthen?

The only area of the field that Postecoglou hasn’t strengthened is the middle of the park. And, with the departures of Bitton and Rogic at the end of the last season, a central midfielder will be on his radar.

Vinicius Souza is one man who has had a lot of speculation surrounding him. The Lommel player is reportedly attracting interest from across Europe. Real Betis and Schalke are the latest clubs vying for his signature.

A midfielder in his mould certainly seems to fit the bill. Celtic need a player of his style and calibre as the squad gears up for a Champions League campaign.

“This season we need to reach another level, that’s the challenge for the players and the manager will be setting that challenge.” McGregor said.

McGregor and his teammates traveled to Austria yesterday for a pre-season camp that begins on Wednesday. Austrian outfit, Wiener Viktoria, are the opposition for the squad’s first match of the new campaign.

As always, the rumour mill will be in overdrive until the window slams shut. But I suspect that fans may need to exercise patience before another signing is unveiled.

In fact, I believe we will see one or two departures before a new squad number is claimed. Bolingoli, Soro and Ajeti spring to mind.

Whatever happens, we’ll keep you in the know.
