Middlesbrough have already secured the services of some fresh faces during the current transfer window and they may not be finished with their business.

Keen to stamp his own authority on the club’s squad, Boro boss Chris Wilder has opted to swoop for Folarin Balogun, Caolan Boyd-Munce and Aaron Connolly.

With there still be plenty of time left to sign players, Middlesbrough could potentially bolster their chances of securing a play-off place if they nail their recruitment.

Wilder may also be willing to cut ties with individuals who have failed to make an impact in the Championship for Boro.

Having utilised the 3-5-2 formation on a regular basis since being appointed as Boro’s new boss, Wilder is likely to stick with this set up for the remainder of the campaign.

Joe Lumley is expected to keep his place in the side for the foreseeable future after keeping three clean-sheets in his last four league appearances.

Paddy McNair, Dael Fry and Anfernee Dijksteel will be tasked with providing defensive cover for Lumley in their centre-back roles.

Isaiah Jones will feature at right-wing back whilst Neil Taylor, who reportedly is set to sign a new deal with Boro which will keep him at the Riverside Stadium until the end of the season, will feature on the left-hand side of the pitch.

Matt Crooks and Marcus Tavernier will be accompanied in the heart of midfield by Riley McGree who is edging closer to finalising a move to Middlesbrough.

McGree underwent a medical yesterday and is expected to complete a switch to the Championship outfit this week.
