McGrath: Has Man Utd striker Rashford suffered Euros hangover? | OneFootball

Manchester United hero Paul McGrath hopes Marcus Rashford can find his form after scoring the winner against West Ham.

McGrath wrote for the Sunday World: "I wonder was his season affected by going to the Euro Final with England last summer, and missing a penalty in the shoot-out that gave the cup to Italy.

"It can be hard mentally to just write that kind of drama off.

"Of course, footballers are supposed to put such things behind them. But they are human beings, it is just not that easy.

"And nor has it been easy for Rashford outside of football, after he went very public on his personal mission to look after kids in deprived areas of Manchester with free school meals last year. He took on important people in that mission.

"He won, and with overwhelming public support, but there would always be a little nagging doubt in your mind, “I'm a footballer, what am I doing getting involved with Ministers and MPs and calling them out?"

"Now of course Marcus was in the right there, 100 per cent so.

"But it is still not a comfortable thing to do for a footballer to do, to put himself out into the public arena the way this kid did last year.

"And that's all he is – a kid! But he got a goal last week against Brentford and now he has scored a huge one.

"Maybe Marcus can get his season going from here?"
