Frank McAvennie doesn’t expect Celtic to make any signings in the next few weeks following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou.

The Hoops icon, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the new boss must see the players for himself before making any transfer decisions.

As confirmed on Thursday (June 10th), Celtic have handed Postecoglou a 12-month rolling contract at Parkhead.

He will have to isolate upon his arrival in Scotland due to coronavirus protocols.

However, Postcoglou will be able to oversee his new side’s Wales training camp next month.

Celtic’s season is fast approaching with vital Champions League qualifiers in August.

Despite this, McAvennie insists there will be no incomings at Parkhead for at least two weeks.

“I would not expect any signings for the next two weeks,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I see people in the paper saying everything will get going now Postecoglou’s here.

“But he won’t see the squad for weeks. How can he make decisions about who needs to come in and who needs to go without seeing the players?

“So much needs to be done. I want him to get going right away. But I would rather he waits until he can see the players for himself.

“He can’t have other people making the decisions for him.”

Postecoglou’s only managerial job in Europe was a 10-month spell with Greek outfit Panachaiki.

He spent four years as Australia boss before joining Yokohama F. Marinos.
