Mbwana Samatta arrives in Ligue 1

It's a historic moment: Mbwana Ally Samatta becomes the first Tanzanian ever to play in Ligue 1. The 32-year-old striker has officially signed a one-year deal with Le Havre AC.

Having previously played for Genk, Aston Villa, Fenerbahçe, Antwerp, and PAOK Salonika—where he was crowned Greek champion—Mbwana Ally Samatta remains a legend of East African football. The Normandy club introduced him on their official website with a touch of humor: "In Tanzania, there are two celebrities: Kilimanjaro and Ally Samatta."

As captain of the Taifa Stars, Mbwana Ally Samatta will compete in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco this December. At Le Havre, he will wear the number 70 shirt and bring his top-level experience to bolster the club's attacking force.
