Spanish TV’s infamous El Chiringuito football show has never been shy about allowing its journalists to air their opinions, but its reaction to Kylian Mbappe’s decision to snub Real Madrid and remain a Paris Saint-Germain player has set a new bar when it comes to bitterness.

The 23-year-old French superstar had widely been tipped to arrive at the Bernabeu on a free transfer this summer, having rejected multiple offers of a new contract from PSG.

In fact, frequent reports from the Spanish capital indicated that Mbappe had already verbally agreed to join Los Blancos in July.

These heavily-circulated rumours prompted El Chiringuito hosts Jose Felix Diaz and Josep Pedrerol to assure their audience that Mbappe was on his way to Real.

As we’ve learned over the last few days, however, that’s not how things will pan out.

Seduced by a record-breaking package from PSG, Mbappe has put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at the Parc des Princes, believed to be worth more than €1.9 million each week.

Real, then, will likely have to wait a considerable period if they are to land their most coveted transfer target – and those connected to the La Liga giants aren’t happy at all.

Least of all, the El Chiringuito boys.

Launching into a scathing rant over Mbappe’s last-minute change of heart, Diaz labelled the player “a coward”, who he could no longer “consider to be a man”.

“Just 10 days ago you were giving your word [to Real Madrid]. They sent you a shirt and you received it for your birthday,” began Diaz, speaking live to the nation.

“You were denying reports that were proven to be true. Mbappe, you’re not a sportsman. You don’t keep your word. You’re not a man. It’s that clear. I can’t consider you as one.

“Why? Because you’ve misled millions of people, not only Florentino Perez. Just two weeks ago, or even 10 days ago, you still said ‘yes’.

“Then, you were so cowardly that you didn’t even phone, you just sent a message. You just showed what you are. You’re a man who doesn’t keep his word.

“You’ll be a great player, but never a great man.”

He clearly wanted to keep burying Mbappe, but a cough from his co-host seemingly reminded him to reign his emotions in slightly. Check out the rant in full below.

His colleague Pedrerol, meanwhile, looked heartbroken as he told viewers: “I’m a fool. I’m stupid because I believed people’s word. I’ll learn from that.”

If Mbappe ever does realise his childhood dream and become a Real player, there’s likely to be plenty of awkward conversations to be had.
