While the transfer saga of Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid is dominating the headlines once again, this is not the first time that the Merengues are trying to sign the French superstar.
Several attempts have been made to land the 25-year-old forward in the past by Los Blancos, with the oldest one coming way back in 2012.
Indeed, back in December 2012, Mbappe was invited to Madrid for the first time for a trial in the same week he turned 14 years old.
The then-teenager got to meet his idol Cristiano Ronaldo and French legend Zinedine Zidane, as he posed with them and clicked pictures, while also impressing the club’s youth coaches.
Now, during an interview on Envoye Special, Mbappe has opened up on his time spent on trial at Real Madrid and the experience he had during the brief stay.
“I was invited by Real Madrid. I spent 4 days there. I saw all the superstars, the whole team, my head was spinning,” Mbappe reminisced.
“After that, I had to go back and do three days of cleaning in my mom’s classroom. I went from stars to the bottom (laughs).”
Discussing his learning from the experience, he added: “At that moment I was thinking ‘what was she thinking bringing me back here?’ But now at this age, I understand. I touched the stars, I had to come back to earth.”
After that trial, Real Madrid have made multiple attempts to sign Mbappe, but have yet to taste success. But that could finally change this summer as his contract with PSG is set to expire, which means he could sign for the Merengues for free.
