Mbappe Made History After Finishing as Ligue 1’s Top Goal-Scorer for the Third Straight Season

Kylian Mbappe once again topped out as the top scorer in Ligue 1 as the forward scored a league-high 27 goals over the now recent 2020/2021 campaign. Unlike in other leagues, the race to be Ligue 1’s top goal-scorer was never close as Mbappe led the way throughout the season.

For Mbappe, this is the third straight season in which he has finished as the top-scorer in Ligue 1. As noted by Statsdufoot, Mbappe became the first player to accomplish this feat since Jean-Pierre Papin did so with Olympique de Marseille. Papin finished as the French First Division’s top goal-scorer in five straight seasons from the 1987-1988 campaign up to the 1991-1992 one.

Mbappe is well capable of also recording a five-season streak of finishing as Ligue 1’s leading goal-scorer. It will be up to him if he aims to do so, especially considering that he remains in a contract extension dilemma with PSG.

Mbappe finished the campaign logging the first 40+ goals in all competitions season of his career so far.
