Journalist Pietro Mazzara believes that AC Milan should feel some regret about not hiring Antonio Conte, and that they should go for him if he is available in the summer.

A number of names were linked as the potential replacement for Stefano Pioli at the end of last season, and Conte was one that certainly garnered a lot of support within certain sections of the fanbase.

Nevertheless, Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirmed that the club didn’t give him much consideration because they wanted a different type of head coach, one more open to working in a collaborative group rather than having more control.

Paulo Fonseca lasted just 24 games and it seems as though his replacement Sergio Conceicao’s days are numbered too. In his latest column for MilanNews, Pietro Mazzara spoke about the decision to snub the Italian in a section titled: ‘Conte regret: he was the right man’.

“If Conte were to free himself from Napoli at the end of the year (which seems difficult even if Paratici were to arrive as sporting director), no more phone numbers should be dialled,” he began.

“Because what he is doing at Napoli after they sold him Kvara and replaced him with Okafor, is something that demonstrates his greatness, that elevates everything and everyone, from the players to the directors.

“For the Milan of the next few years, strong and competent men are needed, who know how to play football. The time for betting, both on the pitch and in management, is largely over.”
