Bruno Génésio fumed at the scheduling of Lille OSC’s derby against RC Lens in a press conference held earlier today.

The manager was left unimpressed by a run of games that will see Les Dogues on the road for three matches between the 18th and 26th of October. In that time, Lille will visit AS Monaco, Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League, and then arch-rivals Lens.

Génésio was particularly annoyed by the visit to Madrid (23rd of October) coming only three days before the match against Lens. The manager who replaced Paulo Fonseca over the summer at the northern club argued that the game should have been pushed back to Sunday the 27th.

“Surprised, that’s an understatement. I’m… I don’t even want to say the word because I want to be polite. It’s irresponsible, even if I know this won’t make any friends […] to go to Monaco, Madrid, and then Lens on Saturday, it’s just scandalous,” Génésio declared.

Before retorting somewhat tongue in cheek, “Maybe we’ll go to Madrid with the reserve team to save ourselves for the derby. And then we’d be criticised for not giving everything to the Champions League.”

Lille look to end current slump

Lille travel to the Stade Océane where they will play Le Havre AC this weekend. Les Dogues are looking to put an end to a run of five games in a row across all competition without a victory.
