New Schalke defender Maya Yoshida has spoken about what led him to sign for the Bundesliga side.
The former Southampton centre-back arrives in Gelsenkirchen on a free transfer after two years at Serie A side Sampdoria.
With the World Cup on the horizon for the 33-year-old Japan captain, he will no doubt be motivated to perform and guarantee his spot in Qatar.
In an interview with his new club, Yoshida admits that he sought the advice of an international team-mate before deciding to join Die Königsblauen.
Schalke will hope the veteran proves as robust as he did for Samp where he made 74 appearances over his two campaigns.
