Manchester City have confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Maximo Perrone has joined La Liga side UD Las Palmas on a season-long loan.
The Argentina international joined Manchester City back in January 2023, signing a five-and-a-half year deal with the Premier League champions following a reported £8 million agreement with Velez Sarsfield.
Perrone made the switch to Manchester officials by moving to the north-west of England following the conclusion of the 2023 South American under-20 Championships, and making his club and Premier League debut in February in a 4-1 away win over Bournemouth.
Now, the decision has been made by Etihad Stadium officials to grant Perrone a move away from the club to further accelerate his development in European football at a time when it is perhaps most challenging to break into Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Following confirmation from both UD Las Palmas and Manchester City, here is everything you need to know about the deal!
Maximo Perrone has joined La Liga side UD Las Palmas on a season-long loan for the duration of the now-ongoing 2023/24 campaign. There is no option to buy for the Spanish club, meaning the player will return to the Etihad Stadium next summer.
City Football Group-owned Girona – also members of La Liga – had been mooted as a potential destination for the player this season, such is the strong working relationship between Manchester City and their sister club.
Manchester City view Perrone as a ‘potential big part of their future plans’, and as such did not even entertain the possibility of UD Las Palmas having the option to sign the youngster on a permanent contract at the end of his loan deal.
Pep Guardiola himself suggested Maximo Perrone as an option to Las Palmas’ head coach Francisco Garcia Pimienta, such is the strong relationship between the two managers.
“(Maximo) Perrone’s development will now continue for 2023/24 in Spain, with him joining Las Palmas on their return to La Liga. The Canary Islands side finished second in the Segunda Division, ending a five-year stint outside the Spanish top flight. “Everyone at Manchester City wishes Maximo the best of luck during his spell at UD Las Palmas.”
“Máximo Perrone arrives at the yellow entity, on loan, after the agreement with Manchester City and the player, until June 30, 2024. Perrone is a high-quality left-footed midfielder, with a good understanding and vision of the game, who adapts to various positions.
“In the 2019/20 season, he began his stage at Vélez, a club with which he played 33 games, 15 games in the professional league; 10 in the Copa Libertadores, 1 in the Argentine Cup and 7 in the League Cup, scoring 3 goals. In addition, he has played five games with the Argentina U-20 team.
“Manchester City took over their rights in January and in the ranks of the citizens they have been proclaimed Champion of the Champions League, Champion of the Premier and Champion of the FA CUP of England.
“Perrone will be presented tomorrow, Thursday, after training, around 1:00 p.m.”
