Manchester City have reached an agreement over Maximo Perrone’s next steps at the summit of professional football following an exciting pre-season tour with the club.

The versatile Argentina youth international excelled during the club’s four-game warm-up schedule in the United States prior to the now-ongoing competitive season, showcasing his ability to appear in goalscoring positions and link-up play in the centre of the park.

Following Kalvin Phillips’ move to Ipswich Town on a season-long loan, there was a hope within some quarters that Perrone may be allowed to build on his encouraging start to life with Manchester City by staying with the club this season.

However, Ilkay Gundogan’s arrival on a free transfer from FC Barcelona may have sparked a re-think within the Etihad Stadium’s recruitment team, as they have now sanctioned an opportunity for more consistent game time away from the club for Perrone.

According to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, Serie A side Como have now completed deal to sign Manchester City’s highly-rated Argentine midfielder, Máximo Perrone on a season-long loan for the 2024/25 campaign.

It is further revealed that the 21-year-old will now travel to undergo the necessary medical tests in the next 24 hours, with the player’s Etihad Stadium salary covered until June.

Most importantly, given previous reports on negotiations, Romano confirms that there will be no buy option clause included in the arrangement between the Premier League champions and Como.

This will be Maximo Perrone’s second successive loan spell away from Manchester City following his arrival from Velez Sarsfield midway through the club’s historic Treble-winning season of 2022/23.

The young midfielder impressed many within Manchester City during his last season away from the club, plying his trade in the Spanish game during a season-long spell with UD Las Palmas and re-linking with Pep Guardiola’s squad this summer.

Perrone’s exit may also open up greater hopes of game time for City’s other two remaining young midfielders this season, with James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly integrated into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad following encouraging performances in pre-season.
