Max Bird has taken to Instagram to share a message with Derby County’s supporters following his side’s showdown with Cheltenham Town.

The midfielder helped the Rams secure all three points at the Completely-Suzuki Stadium by producing a moment of magic in the first-half of this game.

Cheltenham opened the scoring in the second minute as Caleb Taylor headed home from Liam Sercombe’s cross.

Unfazed by Taylor’s goal, Derby levelled proceedings via an effort from Conor Hourihane.

Bird then fired a stunning strike past Cheltenham goalkeeper Luke Southwood from 30 yards out to give Derby the lead.

Following the break, the Rams extended their advantage over Cheltenham as Tom Barkhuizen slotted an effort into the bottom corner.

While Cheltenham did pull a goal back in the 77th minute, Derby held on to seal victory on their travels.

As a result of this triumph, Derby closed the gap between them and Ipswich Town to seven points as they retained fourth place in the League One standings.

After his side’s latest outing in this division, Bird decided to reflect on this game by sharing a message on Instagram.

The Verdict

Having failed to score in any of his previous 24 League One appearances, Bird ended his wait for a goal at this level in spectacular style last weekend.

A key member of Derby’s squad, the midfielder will be determined to help his side secure a place in the play-offs later this year by delivering the goods on a consistent basis.

As well as scoring against Cheltenham, Bird also made four tackles and two interceptions and completed 33 passes as he recorded a WhoScored match rating of 7.70.

With Derby set to take on Bolton Wanderers this weekend, they will need Bird to be firing on all cylinders in order to have the best chance of securing a positive result at Pride Park as their opponents will be brimming with confidence heading into this victory following their 3-0 win over Portsmouth.
