Mauro Icardi has had a pretty rough day.

First, Inter announced he has been stripped of the captaincy with negotiations between player and club over a new contract at loggerheads.

And now it seems he has a family feud to deal with too.

Moments after Inter’s tweet confirming that goalkeeper Samir Handanović had taken over the captaincy, the Argentine striker’s sister took to Twitter to vent her frustration at her brother’s wife and agent, Wanda Nara.

“My poor brother, why does he continue to allow this? At Inter they don’t allow these attitudes,” wrote Ivana Icardi Rivero in a now-deleted tweet.

“If he had a serious person behind him, who took care of him, this wouldn’t happen.”

Ouch.

Ivana quickly took the tweet down and followed up with another.

“Sometimes it’s better to close your mouth and for people to think you’re stupid than to open it and confirm it,” she wrote, presumably in reference to her own tweet.

Elsewhere on social media, eagle-eyed Instagram users noticed that Inter midfielder Marcelo Brozović ‘liked’ a number of posts about Icardi being stripped of the captaincy.

The Croatian may have some explaining to do when he next crosses paths with his team-mate.

But that won’t happen this week because Icardi has been left out of the Nerazzurri squad for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Rapid Vienna.

The 25-year-old is still under contract at San Siro until June 2021 but the club are reportedly eager for him to sign a new deal so that they can increase his €110m release clause.

Speaking earlier this week, his wife and agent gave an interesting update on the current situation.

“I’d like to see Mauro more protected by the club because sometimes nasty things have come out from inside,” Nara told Tiki Taka.

“The priority is Inter, I’ve never demanded a renewal. We’re in no hurry, he still has two years left on his contract.”
