Inter face an increasingly tough task in sorting out the future of their former captain Mauro Icardi, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Nerazzurri have told Maurito he is not part of their plans going forward but they are likely to still have him around when preseason training begins on 8 July.

Icardi is on holiday with wife and agent Wanda Nara at the moment and has no desire of leaving the club, having recently bought a house near Inter’s new offices.

Antonio Conte cannot sign striker Romelu Lukaku unless Inter can sell at least one between Icardi, Radja Nainggolan and Ivan Perisic.

Inter are keen to swap Icardi with Paulo Dybala but Juventus are not interested in sending La Joya to their arch rivals.

The Bianconeri cannot make a big-money offer for Icardi until they have found a buyer for Gonzalo Higuain, either.

Juan Cuadrado is also mooted as a potential makeweight, given Conte is an admirer of the Colombian, but Inter and Juventus could disagree on his valuation.

Icardi and Wanda have made plenty of contact with the Old Lady in recent months but at the moment there is no clear way of sending him there.

The longer the 26-year-old remains at Inter the harder it will be for the Nerazzurri to avoid a distraction during preseason.
