Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi is hesitant to commit his long-term future to the club amid interest from Serie A duo AC Milan and AS Roma, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.
The Argentine striker joined the Turkish giants from Paris Saint-Germain last summer on a loan deal with a €15 million buy option.
Having lived up to expectations with nine goals and six assists in 14 Turkish top-flight games, Gala are ready to exercise the buyout clause in the player’s contract.
Icardi’s goals have played a pivotal part in Gala’s bid to reclaim the Super Lig crown for the first time since the 2018/19 campaign.
However, the 30-year-old is reluctant to commit to the club with a return to the Serie A on the table as Milan and Roma show interest.
Milan are in the market for a new striker with Olivier Giroud and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who are in the twilight of their careers.
Giroud has recorded eight goals and four assists in 24 league games this season. Meanwhile, the Swedish legend’s only goal since returning from a lengthy injury lay-off came from the penalty spot in the 3-1 defeat to Udinese before the international break.
Divock Origi, who joined on a free transfer from Liverpool, has also struggled to make his mark at the San Siro Stadium, with the club now open to a summer departure.
A lack of potent goalscoring options to lead the line has forced the Rossoneri to dip into their relatively shallow pockets to find a solution to their problems in the striking department.
While Icardi could prove a shrewd acquisition, they will face competition from Roma, who are also in the market for a new striker with Tammy Abraham’s future up in the air.
Jose Mourinho reportedly no longer trusts the former Chelsea man who has lost his starting berth to summer signing Andrea Belotti, and a return to the Premier League could be an option with former club Aston Villa keen.
