Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has confirmed that he has offered John Terry a place on the club’s coaching staff.

The Italian tactician though has conceded that he’s unsure whether the legendary defender will take up the position as he wants to play for at least another season.

The veteran centre back was at Aston Villa last term and this week turned down a two-year deal with Spartak Moscow.

Terry isn’t too keen on retiring just yet, but Sarri has claimed that the Blues have offered their former captain a place in his backroom staff when he decides to hang up his boots.

“The last time I have spoken with him, he told me that he wants to play for another season,” he said. “But I don’t know now the situation. I am talking about a week ago.

“Chelsea is his home, of course. I’m open to the idea of course.

“For sure, he will be a point of reference for me. For everybody here, I think.

“I don’t know if there is a chance. He told me a lot of things, that he wants to play. I don’t know. I’d have to speak to him.

“It’s up to him. If he wants to play for another season, I think it’s right that he tries to play. But, if he wants to help us, I’m really very happy.

“Here is John Terry’s home. So he will be very important for everybody here. Only his presence.

“It’s up to him. It’s up to him. I am very open with him because he is the history of the club. He has won everything with the club, so it’s up to him.”
