As reported by L’Équipe, PSG could yet retain Mauricio Pochettino for the final year of his contract having been reportedly close to sacking him more than once since Christmas.

Zinedine Zidane was offered Pochettino’s job in January while he was (and is) widely expected to follow sporting director Leonardo out of the club this week amid sweeping hierarchical changes at the club.

However, Kylian Mbappé, who now wields significant power at the club, following the signing of his new contract, spoke of his “great relationship” with Pochettino at a press conference yesterday, while it’s been reported it would cost the club 15m to sack the former Tottenham coach before the end of his deal next summer.

As a result, Pochettino – who would have very likely been sacked if Leonardo had stayed – could now be given a reprieve. Doing so would allow Pochettino’s contract to run down, leaving the club to approach Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola, who’s deal also ends next summer and who is the a major target for Paris’ Qatari owners.
