Lazio captain Mattia Zaccagni was ecstatic with his return to action as he managed to make an impact straight away and lead his team to victory over Cagliari.

The 29-year-old skipped the last two Serie A encounters against Genoa and Como due to severe gastroenteritis which warranted a hospital visit at one point. Nevertheless, the winger managed to overcome the issue and return to acting as a protagonist for the Aquile. While the scoreline was showing 1-1, Zaccagni entered the pitch in the 73rd, replacing Matteo Guendouzi.

Shortly afterwards, Luca Pellegrini was clipped by Nadir Zortea inside the penalty box, prompting the match official to point to the spot. The skipper then stepped up to the occasion, burying a powerful drive in the bottom corner, leaving Simone Scuffet with no chance. This proved to be the winner that separated the two sides on Monday.

Mattia Zaccagni on Lazio’s Never-Say-Die Attitude

In his post-match interview with DAZN (via La Lazio Siamo Noi), Zaccagni expressed his delight with his glorious return, insisting that he and his teammates are setting the bar high this season.

I had a busy week between viruses and other things but I’m back and I’m happy to have brought home the three points. This is an excellent result. We are always in the game until the end. Lazio will never give up, and we have no limits.

Big Ambitions

The Italy international is determined to remain in the mix on top of the Serie A table and also dedicated the win to Flavio, the young Lazio supporter who recently passed away following a battle with illness.

We want to take it game by game and cling to the clubs in front and stay as high as possible in the standings. We dedicate the goals to Flavio and his family. This victory is for them.
