It appeared that Mattia Caldara’s Milan career was finally up and running after putting in a fine performance against Lazio in the Coppa Italia semi-finals last week following a myriad of injuries that caused him to make just one prior appearance the entire season.
Gennaro Gattuso was set to hand Caldara his league debut in red and black against Bologna on Monday, just a day after his 25th birthday, but that will not be happening.
On Thursday, Caldara’s season came to an end as he tore his ACL in training.
During Milan’s practice session, he made an unnatural movement which caused the Italian international to experience immediate knee pain.
After further review of the medical team, they confirmed the rupture of his left anterior cruciate, which will cause Caldara to miss around six months.
Caldara was a major part of the deal last summer that also brought Gonzalo Higuaín on loan while Leonardo Bonucci returned to Juventus
