Matthijs De Ligt is a Juventus player now but it seems he will always have Ajax blood coursing through his veins.
De Ligt joined Juve in a deal worth a reported €75m last week, and the Dutchman has now joined up with the Serie A champions on their pre-season tour of China.
As has become traditional in football now, the 19-year-old was forced to stand up and sing a song in front of his new team-mates as part of an initiation ceremony.
And he chose Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ – a song which became a terrace anthem during Ajax’s remarkable run to the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.
Meanwhile, despite the fact he previously spent 17 years as a Juve player, Gianluigi Buffon was not spared the embarrassment of having to sing an initiation song either.
But as you’d expect, the veteran goalkeeper poured his heart and soul into it …
However, for our money, first prize goes to Gonzalo Higuaín – who has returned to the Bianconeri following loan spells at AC Milan and Chelsea – for his rendition of ‘Despacito’.
Looks like a fun evening.
