Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt is likely to be one of European football’s most sought-after players this summer.

The 19-year-old has wowed onlookers with his mature defensive performances for the Champions League semi-finalists and has been strongly tipped to follow Frenkie de Jong to Barcelona before the start of next season.

The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Juventus are also understood to be keeping tabs on the Dutch international but it seems there is still a possibility he could end up at Bayern Munich.

That’s according to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, who writes on his personal blog that De Ligt is a big Bayern admirer and even had his photograph taken in front of the club’s crest when Ajax played at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League earlier this season.

Falk claims the teenager is only interested in joining Barcelona or the current Bundesliga champions this summer, despite the fact reports earlier this week suggested his agent, Mino Raiola, is trying to push him towards Manchester United.

Whether Bayern would be willing to splash out north of €70m on another defender having already bought Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard remains to be seen, however.
