A successful start to the World Cup for Matthijs de Ligt! The FC Bayern centre-back and the Dutch national team enjoyed a 2-0 win over Senegal in their opener on Monday. In what was a hotly contested game for a long time, PSV Eindhoven's Cody Gakpo broke the deadlock for the Netherlands in the 84th minute. Ajax's Davy Klaassen then made sure of the three points in added time. De Ligt played the full 90 minutes for Louis van Gaal's men, whose next game is on Friday 25 November at 17:00 CET against Ecuador, who also won in the opening match against hosts Qatar.
