Arsenal midfielder Mattéo Guendouzi was reportedly dropped for Sunday’s 4-0 win over Newcastle after having a ‘heated row’ with manager Mikel Arteta during the club’s winter camp in Dubai.

Guendouzi was left out of the 18-man squad entirely with Dani Ceballos replacing him in central midfield.

According to Telegraph Sport, the 20-year-old clashed with Arteta on the training pitch before the argument continued at the team hotel later that evening.

Arteta initially claimed his decision was motivated by tactics but later hinted at disciplinary issues, stating those who started were ‘behaving better’ at the club.

“The reason is that players who are training better, behaving better and are more applied to deliver on the pitch what we want, are the players that are selected,” he told BeiN Sports.

Guendouzi has impressed for Arsenal since joining from Ligue 2 side Lorient in 2018, but has been limited to just two Premier League starts under Arteta.

It remains to be seen whether this incident will have a long-term impact on his future.
