Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi clashed with new boss Igor Tudor following last week’s pre-season defeat to AC Milan, L’Equipe reports (via GFFN).

The clash has been described as a ‘lively altercation’.

It is unclear what caused tensions to rise, but the French international had his shower, packed up his things and did not come out for the second half.

Guendouzi is known for his strong personality and confrontational nature, but Tudor is no easy person to deal with.

The former Arsenal man becomes the fourth player to have clashed with the manager this summer. Cengiz Under, Gerson and Jordan Amavi have also confronted the Croatian coach in pre-season.

Amavi was banished from the first team for his actions. Bamba Dieng has also been axed for no reason.

Aurélien Chedjou (via GOAL) is not surprised that the Tudor is having issues with Guendouzi and co. He shared his experiences playing under Tudor while at Galatasaray.

“He has trouble with players of character,” he said. “From his first speech, we knew straight away that we were going to suffer.

“He had noticed by watching some of our games that we weren’t running enough and that we had to start doing it and that the one who wasn’t ready would be taken out of his group, that immediately set the tone.

“At all the training sessions, even the day before the games, we were running. We were burnt out in matches.

“He insisted on the 3-5-2, which we didn’t master during the week, and it was even worse during the games. He didn’t want to know anything. It was a clash, and some players went to see the president.

“I’m not surprised by what is happening today in Marseille. I thought that with the experience he had at Galatasaray, he would put some effort into it.

“I thought he would take it easy after his experience at Galatasaray, but I see that he hasn’t!”

L’Equipe have previously reported how Tudor’s style of coaching differs from Jorge Sampaoli.

“Tudor is sometimes cold and he’s undone everything Jorge Sampaoli did – the style, the atmosphere, and the squad are finding it difficult to switch to the opposite extreme,” they wrote.

The situation is so bad that Marseille president Pablo Longoria is involved. The players, led by captain Dimitri Payet, held talks with the management.

Longoria told the players that their past affinity with Sampaoli should not impact their professionalism.

Tudor, the former assistant of Andrea Pirlo at Juventus, was Longoria’s choice and he intends to stand behind that decision.

The tensions between the players and the coach have not been helped by poor pre-season results. Marseille have lost all their games and were booed off after the loss to AC Milan in their final friendly.

Marseille’s Ligue 1 campaign kicks off against Stade de Reims on Sunday. They will need to rally round to get a result.

Their season has not started, but it feels like Marseille are already on the verge of imploding.
