Inter defender Matteo Darmian has revealed that he is enjoying life at Inter, a few weeks on from his arrival at the club from fellow Serie A side Parma.
“The sensation is a positive one, I’m finding myself very well here,” he explained in an interview with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, which was broadcast earlier on today.
“I already knew Conte because I worked with him in the national team and knew many of my teammates too so it was quite simple to insert myself. Now it’s up to us to do our best.”
Darmian was then asked about whether his and his teammates objective for the season is to win the Serie A title: “It’s up to us, it will depend on what we do on the pitch. We just have to think about improving day by day and the results will come. ”
The 36 time Italian national team representative was then asked whether he ever thought he would end up playing for Inter given that he came through the ranks of their city rivals AC Milan.
“In football there is nothing that can be taken for granted. I grew up in the youth academy of AC Milan. I went on loan and moved around a bit.
“The experience I had at Torino was important, I had a great four years there. I felt the coach’s confidence in me and I fully demonstrated my worth.”
He added: “On Sunday they will be our opponent and once on the pitch my thoughts will only be the three points. At Manchester United it was an important adventure, it is a source of pride for me to have played for one of the most important clubs in the world. Inter is an equally great club, I will try to do my best.”
In conclusion Darmian was asked what is so special about Conte, who is now into his second year in charge of Inter.
“He demands a lot from us, every day and not just on Sunday’s. He takes care of every detail, at this level this is what makes the difference. He is someone who always wants to win and passes it on to the team.”
Since joining Inter, the 30-year-old has made eight appearances across all competitions to date but he has been unable to make any goal contributions in his 538 minutes on the field.
