Ahead of Wednesday night’s Gold Cup clash against Guyana, United States centre-back Matt Miazga opened up on his Chelsea future.

The 23-year-old has gained plenty of first-team experience on loan over the last three years since his move from New York Red Bulls and was Reading’s first-choice centre-back for the second half of the season.

With three years remaining on his Chelsea deal, Miazga hopes that a new manager will allow him to get a fresh look.

“It’s going to be an interesting few weeks coming up, hopefully. Obviously, my main focus is the Gold Cup with the national team and contributing here [with the United States].

“I’ve been in touch with my agent and Chelsea. We’re due to speak with Chelsea very soon and see what’s next.”

“Obviously there’s news now that Sarri is leaving, so you never know what can happen with the coaches, if they want to take a look at you.

“I had a lot of good learning experiences in France [at Nantes] playing in the beginning, and then a new coach coming in and having to re-earn their trust.

“And then going to Reading and playing football matches under a lot of pressure in a relegation battle. I thought I grew a lot this year.”

Miazga has made just two first-team appearances for the Blues, both coming back in April 2016.
