We’re into the final week of the summer transfer window, and while Chelsea have had a busy and successful summer already, things are going to up another gear now, as they always do.
One of the biggest remaining question marks is over what happens with Nicolas Jackson. The striker is available, and as other options disappear from the market the number of teams seriously considering him seems to grow. We’ve heard a lot about Aston Villa and Bayern Munich in particular in recent weeks.

Matt Law gave his thoughts on the matter on the London is Blue podcast today:
“I’m also told there’s a fairly big other club in the mix who nobody will tell me who it is… I’m told that Newcastle have shown a new interest in him over the past few days. Bayern have publicly denied an interest but lots of source around both player and Chelsea think that Bayern are still sniffing around,” Law said.
“They definitely want an attacker stroke striker, if not two, by the end of the window. So it’s hard to discount them. Villa are very keen but obviously have huge financial challenges to them, but I do think that if it’s Villa it will be late, because they don’t have the financial freedom to just do it immediately and blow other clubs out of the water.”

Chelsea are in a strong position here. They don’t need to sell and probably would be pretty happy keeping Jackson around. But all these potentially interested teams are running out of time to find alternatives, and it feels likely at least one ends up making desperate late offers for Jackson – which could mean a big windfall for Chelsea.
