Matt Doherty signs for Atlético Madrid after leaving Spurs

Atlético Madrid have confirmed the signing of defender Matt Doherty.

Doherty joins the Spanish giants on a short-term deal after his contract was terminated by Tottenham earlier on deadline day.

Doherty spent two and a half years in north London, where he played 44 times in the Premier League.

The veteran right-back becomes the first Ireland international to play for one of Spain’s big three clubs.
