Mats Hummels, a six-time Bundesliga winner, 2014 FIFA World Cup champion and one of German football's finest defenders, has played his final game as a professional player.
Hummels - who left the Bundesliga for Roma last summer and turned 36 in December 2024 - came on as 90th-minute substitute in the Italian club's 2-0 win at Torino, six weeks after confirming the 2024/25 season would be his last.
One of the modern game's most accomplished central defenders, famed for his passing range, Hummels began his career at Bayern Munich before winning back-to-back Bundesliga titles under Jürgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund.
He got his hands on another four league crowns upon his return to Bayern, whilst playing an integral role in Germany's 2014 World Cup triumph in Brazil.
Hummels returned to Dortmund in 2019 after three years in Munich, helping the Black-Yellows reach the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League final in his final season at the club.
The 78-time international also won four DFB Cups and six Supercups during his time in Germany.
All told, he made 508 competitive appearances for BVB, as well as 118 in Bayern colours. The Bergisch Gladbach native also played 20 times for Roma in 2024/25.
