Lazio were arguably the better side in the Derby della Capitale, but they were forced to settle for a draw against Roma.

Lazio & Roma Starting Lineups

Taty Castellanos made his return to the Biancocelesti starting lineup, supported by Gustav Isaksen, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Mattia Zaccagni, while Matteo Guendouzi combined with Nicolo Rovella in the double pivot. On the other hand, Artem Dovbyk led the line for the Giallorossi, with Matias Soulè, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Alexis Saelemaekers behind him.

Lazio the Better Side in Goalless First Half

The first half was a relatively timid affair, but Lazio certainly had the upper hand. A free-kick from the left side was powerfully headed goalwards by Alessio Romagnoli, but Mile Svilar pulled off an exceptional save. Gustav Isaksen also tested the Serbian goalkeeper with a vicious strike from close range, but the latter was up to the task.

Luca Pellegrini Sets Up Alessio Romagnoli for the Opener

Thanks to Svilar, Roma managed to escape unscathed in the first period, but the custodian could do little about Romagnoli’s second attempt after the break. The defender latched onto Luca Pellegrini’s sublime free-kick delivery, as two former Roma players combined to put their beloved Lazio ahead on the scoreline.

Matias Soulè Stuns Lazio

Gianluca Mancini tried to reply to Romagnoli in a similar fashion, but Christos Mandas produced the save of the week to stop him. Zaccagni almost doubled the Aquile’s lead with a trademark curler towards the far post, but it drifted inches wide. Shortly after, Soulè snatched the equalizer for Roma with a sensational long-range scorcher that hit the woodwork before dropping just over the line.

Futile Draw

Lazio returned to the offence as they pushed for a winner, but Pedro was denied by Svilar. On another attempt, Boulaye Dia couldn’t inflict damage from the rebound after losing his footing. So in the end, Lazio and Roma settled for a draw that did neither club any favors in the Champions League race, as they remain 6th and 7th respectively.
