San Jose Earthquakes manager and former Chivas boss Matías Almeyda had a sincere interview with Francisco Gabriel De Anda on Thursday night on the Futbol Picante program on ESPN in which he revealed the reasons he had to leave Guadalajara.
During Almeyda’s time at Chivas, he won an incredible five titles including a very unlikely CONCACAF Champions League title in 2018.
Since his departure, Chivas have yet to make the Liguilla.
“The fact that Jorge (Vergara) was no longer there (present in the club’s offices) had a lot of influence on me but I think there is a reason why.
“The only thing I have left of Chivas is a great memory that I will carry forever within my soul.
“All the people I met had different personalities and then there was a feeling there you could easily pick up.
“I felt that my cycle had passed so with that and the circumstances I said, I felt that I did not have to continue.”
In his first season with San Jose Earthquakes, Almeyda more than doubled their point total from the previous season but lost nine of the last 11 matches to miss the play-offs by four points.
