Following Jean-Michel Aulas’ departure as president of Olympique Lyonnais, his successor John Textor has made one of his first actions finding a new head of recruitment to replace Bruno Cheyrou. Foot Mercato had reported that Le Havre’s director of football Mathieu Bodmer was one of the names on OL’s shortlist to fill the position as well as Eric Abidal and Loïc Désiré.

However, following Le Havre’s Ligue 2 title victory and promotion to Ligue 1, Bodmer has quashed these rumours while speaking to beIn Sports. When asked about the rumours linking him with the vacant Lyon role, Bodmer was dismissive: “The rumours? That’s journalist stuff. I am very happy in Le Havre”. Bodmer has been credited with being one of the best sporting directors in France and has played a significant part in masterminding Le Havre’s promotion back to Ligue 1 from a recruitment perspective.

The former defensive midfielder is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to players from across the globe, previously stating he watches an average of 50 matches of football a week. Despite OL’s interest, though, Bodmer has reaffirmed his commitment to the newly-crowned Ligue 2 champions and will look to use his expertise to keep Le Havre in Ligue 1 next season.
