After ongoing negotiations, Flamengo announced through their official club Twitter account that Matheuzinho has extended his contract.
The 20-year-old defender is now tied to the club until 2025, extending his previous agreement by two years.
Domènec Torrent has relied on Matheuzinho in recent weeks and the player has nine appearances for the senior team and three assists to his name.
The player took to Twitter to speak to fans about penning the new deal.
“I want to thank my family and Flamengo for this opportunity to renew. It is a child’s dream to play in a big club in Brazil,” said Matheuzinho.
“Flamengo is the greatest team in America today, I thank God, I am very happy and today is another step forward. Let’s go because this year is full of championships for us to win.”
