Mateusz Klich recently joined an exclusive virtual session with some of our older participants from the Leeds United Foundation health and wellbeing programmes.

Members from the weekly Sporting Memories and Fit Generations initiatives, along with some local care homes, were all invited to join an extra special session with the first-team star to hear all about his career to date and ask any burning questions they had prepared.

The weekly programmes are currently operating online, with participants aged 50 and over invited to join in various discussions – usually focused around football and Leeds United, take part in low-impact physical activities and hear from various special guests – which all helps to support their mental and physical wellbeing.

The Poland international was on hand during one of the recent sessions to give the groups in question something to look forward to as they all deal with another national lockdown due to the global pandemic, isolating and shielding away from family members and loved ones.

Mateusz spent time speaking to the group about his life and career, discussing growing up in Poland and spending eight years living in Krakow, playing in the Dutch league and how it differs to the Championship and the Premier League, his biggest achievements in his career and how he balances football with his family life. The participants had plenty of their own questions to ask him, interacting and engaging with the midfielder throughout the session, with some members having even learnt polish to welcome him onto the call.

Also joining the call was former Leeds United player Alf Jones, who played as a full-back for the club back in the 1960s. The care home that Alf currently resides in recently got in touch with the club which resulted in him and others staying in the same care home being invited to join the weekly programmes. During the session, Alf was able to reminisce about some of his Leeds United playing days giving a fascinating insight into the club to the delight of the other members.

If you would like to take a look at some of the session, you can watch the video on LUTV here.
