Inter Milan have been handed a huge boost in the pursuit of Mateo Retegui, who has confirmed his intention to leave Tigre this summer.

Currently on loan from Boca Juniors, Retegui has been enjoying a prolific loan spell with Tigre, which led to his maiden call-up from the Italian national team during the recent international break.

The 23-year-old also grabbed everyone’s attention by scoring in his first two games for the Azzurri against England and Malta in the 2024 European Championship qualifiers.

Interest has grown for the young Italian centre-forward, with some of Europe’s top clubs adding him to their wishlist.

Inter Milan and Eintracht Frankfurt are the frontrunners, having already enquired about Retegui.

The Nerazzurri have earmarked Retegui as the priority target for the summer to partner Lautaro Martinez next season.

The Italian giants held talks with his father and agent, Carlos, during the international break. He also struck an agreement with Tigre that they would be given first preference in the transfer race.

Amid the speculation, Retegui has expressed his desire to move to Serie A this summer.

“I will play in Europe from July,” Retegui told Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Nicolo Schira). “I would like to sign for a Serie A club. I’m already learning Italian and English.”

“Inter’s interest? I don’t know anything, my father and Tigre are taking care of that.”

Inter believe their good relationship with Tigre – achieved during the loan transfer of Facundo Colidio – could help them strike a deal for Retegui.
