Lionel Messi Argentina to victory over Australia in their World Cup last 16 clash on Saturday.

Argentina went into the match as heavy favourites but struggled to break down a dogged Australian side.

They finally took the lead in the 35th minute courtesy of a moment of magic from Messi.

Argentina went on to secure a 2-1 victory and book their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face the Netherlands.

While Lionel was magical on the pitch, his son, Mateo, was causing chaos off it.

Lionel was beaming after being shown his family’s reaction following the victory.

But he would not have been impressed with some of Mateo’s other actions during the game.

Mateo, 7, has proven to be a menace with some of his antics in the past.

And he was at it again at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium as he launched some chewing gum into the crowd.

Antonella, Lionel’s wife, was understandably not happy with Mateo’s actions and quickly scolded him.

Messi: I was thinking about my family throughout Australia match

Messi spoke about his family after the match and shared his joy at sharing the excitement with them.

“From the beginning to the final whistle I was thinking about my family,” he said after Argentina’s win vs Australia, per the Sun.

“My children especially, as they are growing older and understand more.

“We have had families before at World Cups – Thiago has been there but wasn’t aware what it meant.

“I now see how they suffer and enjoy it. It’s something spectacular.

“They are excited as all Argentinians – it’s amazing to share this with them.”

Messi will be in action when Argentina take on the Netherlands in their quarter-final tie, which is set to kick off at 7pm GMT on Friday December 9.
