Mateo Kovacic could be available for selection as soon as this week, according to a surprise exclusive from The Times today.

That comes as news to us – the last we heard from Thomas Tuchel he gave no hint that the Croatian could be ready that soon. After 8 games out, we’ve really started to struggle without his quality, and importantly the extra depth he gives us in the middle of the park.

He’s still unlikely to travel to Russia to play Zenit on Wednesday, in what we imagine will be a very rotated team.

But according to the piece he’s “expected to be part of the squad for Leeds’ visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday.”

That will be a huge game for us as we look to get our season back on track after a string of bad results in the Premier League, and even a half fit Kovacic will help there.

He was in great form before picking up this hamstring problem back in October – let’s pray he can pick up where he left off.
