Mateo Kovačić has officially completed his permanent move to Chelsea from Real Madrid, signing a five-year contract.
The Croatian playmaker spent last season on loan at Stamford Bridge and played a key part in their journey to Europa League success.
There had been suggestions that Kovačić could stay with Los Blancos after his impressive performances in England, but that is not the case, with the Liga side revealing via a statement that the 25-year-old has gone back to west London in a permanent deal.
Speaking to the official Chelsea website, he said: “I really enjoyed my season on loan with Chelsea, I feel comfortable at the club and like London and the Premier League very much. I am very happy to be able to join permanently.
“We had a successful year, winning the Europa League and I hope I can make a big contribution in the coming seasons.”
