SC Freiburg recently won in the Europa League with a 4-2-3-1 formation, but have lost back-to-back games in the Bundesliga.

Tactics

Freiburg head coach Christian Streich, who has been at the helm since 2012, has overseen two wins and two defeats so far in the new Bundesliga season. However, his charges did earn a 3-2 away victory at Olympiacos on Thursday evening in the UEFA Europa League using a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Absentees

Streich is without Nicolas Höfler (suspended), Daniel-Kofi Kyereh and Christian Günter (both injured). Michael Gregoritsch was sidelined against Olympiacos with a calf complaint. For Eintracht, Kristijan Jakic, Sebastian Rode (both injured) and Mehdi Loune (recovery following a cruciate ligament tear) all miss out. Mario Götze picked up a knock against Aberdeen and is rated doubtful

One to watch: Maximilian Eggestein

  1. Maximilian Eggestein is one of Freiburg's key players. He wore the captain's armband against Borussia Dortmund last weekend in place of the injured Günter, and as his regular central midfield partner Höfler is suspended, Eggestein will need to shoulder even greater responsibility in the middle of the park.
  2. Eggestein has a pass completion rate of 94.4 percent this season, putting him fourth in that category across the Bundesliga. He also covers more ground than any of his team-mates at an average of 10.7 kilometres per game.
  3. He also boasts a wealth of experience with 222 Bundesliga appearances, of which 66 have been for Freiburg. He has registered 13 goals and 21 assists overall.
  4. The 26-year-old earned 21 caps for Germany's U20 and U21 teams.

Statistics

Neither Frankfurt nor Freiburg have scored in the first half an hour of their games so far this season. Freiburg have, however, conceded four times in that period, with only FC Augsburg (five) letting in more.

Dino Toppmöller's side have the best defensive record in the Bundesliga this term with just three goals conceded. They have scored just four at the other end though; a league-low tally shared with Bochum, Köln and Mainz. Having said that, the Eagles have found the net in each of their last 15 home games in the league, scoring 31 times. Eintracht are unbeaten in their last seven Bundesliga outings stretching back to last season, recording three wins and four draws.
