Borussia Mönchengladbach are currently tenth in the league on 35 points – three spots and six points behind Eintracht. They are however on a decent run of form, going unbeaten in their last three games. Throughout this season, head coach Daniel Farke has stuck to his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

Absentees

Eintracht will be without the injured trio of Jesper Lindström, Philipp Max and Hrvoje Smolcic, as well as Mario Götze who is suspended having accumulated five bookings. Almamy Toure has been training away from the main group, while Evan Ndicka is touch-and-go due to muscular problems.

For Gladbach, Mamadou Doucouré and Yvandro Borges Sanches are both injured, while Nico Elvedi is doubtful.

One to watch: Jonas Hofmann

Since joining Gladbach in 2016, Jonas Hofmann has established himself as both a Germany international and a firm fan favourite.

  1. 87.5% of his shots have been on target so far this season – the best shooting accuracy in the Bundesliga.
  2. He currently has eight goals and as many assists to his name, which puts him sixth in the goal contributions list.
  3. In 207 competitive appearances for the Foals, the right winger has been involved in 94 goals (scoring 44 himself and assisting 50).

Key battle: Lars Stindl versus Makoto Hasebe

The match between Frankfurt and Mönchengladbach brings together two of the most experienced campaigners in the Bundesliga. 34-year-old Gladbach captain Lars Stindl, who along with Ramy Bensebaini and Marcus Thuram revealed this week that he will be leaving the club this summer, has racked up 369 league appearances for the Foals, including 19 against Eintracht (with five goals and five assists). Makoto Hasebe, meanwhile, is five years older and has one more appearance to his name, as well as being the oldest outfield player in Frankfurt’s Bundesliga history.

Both Stindl and Hasebe are still delivering top performances despite their advanced years in football terms. The former has five goals and six assists so far this season, while the latter has an 88.3% pass competition rate – only 10 players in the league are better. The Japanese continues to attract praise from pundits for his positional awareness and cool head in build-up play – both of which he will need against Stindl if the Eagles are to come out on top.
