José Mourinho and Roma return to league action tomorrow evening as they host 12th-placed Torino at the Stadio Olimpico.

The Giallorossi enter the match having won two matches in a row after encountering their first rough patch of the season, suffering defeats to Juventus, Milan, Bodø/Glimt, and Venezia.

Despite having turned around their fortunes, tomorrow’s showdown against the Granata is anything but a certainty for Roma, who are dealing with an emergency situation in midfield.

Midfielders Bryan Cristante and Gonzalo Villar won’t be available due to COVID-19 while Frenchman Jordan Veretout is suspended.

Earlier today Mourinho was asked about the absences in midfield during his pre-match press conference. The Portuguese technician admitted that it’s a difficult situation but he refused to give any hints regarding a potential swap in formation.

“I don’t want to answer that right now. Initially we had an issue with a lack of options at fullback, however, now the problem is in midfield,” he said.

“We’re missing two starters and a quality bench option. Though, since we have more fullbacks at our disposal, we can play with a four or five-man defence.”

As for their opposition, Torino boss Ivan Jurić will also be forced to make changes for tomorrow’s encounter.

The Granata, who have won three of their previous five matches, will be without Rolando Mandragora, Riccardo Rodriguez, and Cristian Ansaldi.

“Tomorrow we hope to do well, trying to score points because every match is an opportunity. Often against the big teams we lost by little plus certain episodes didn’t go our way,” said Jurić discussing tomorrow’s game.

“We always prepare the games on the basis of the same concepts, perhaps with a few more tricks depending on the type of opponent you face.”

Roma and Torino kick-off tomorrow evening at 18.00 CET at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome.
