VCF Mestalla played this Tuesday evening the match against Chelsea FC corresponding to the last day of the group stage of the Premier League International Cup, an international U21 competition organised by the Premier League and in which 12 teams from England and other 12 teams from countries such as Spain, Germany, France, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Wales, Croatia or Portugal participate.

Last match of the group stage

In a match marked by the intense cold at Kingsmeadow, the Valencianista reserve team were looking to bid farewell to the competition with a win against Chelsea FC, who were making their chances of advancing to the next round very slim.

The first half was very even, with few chances for both teams, with Rodrigues and Joselu having a few chances for VCF Mestalla and Chelsea FC looking for the goal well defended by Vassi. The scores were level in the final minutes thanks to a penalty in which the VCF Academy's Bulgarian international goalkeeper was unable to save Morgan's spot kick.

Second half

In the second half, VCF Mestalla equalised just after the restart with a cross-shot from Rodrigo Rodrigues who took advantage of an indecisive English defence. Minutes later, VCF Mestalla came close to completing the comeback when Rodrigues set up Frith who shot over the crossbar.

With the score level, both teams looked for the win, Chelsea had a shot at the post and VCF Mestalla had a good shot from Joselu that Merrick saved and in the final minutes Javi Navarro failed to finish in front of Merrick.

The team coached by Miguel Angel Angulo thus signs off their participation in the Premier League International Cup in which they have faced Brighton and Hove Albion FC (3-2), West Ham FC (1-0), Southampton FC (0-2) and Chelsea FC (1-1).

The b team have shown a good competitive level against big clubs, but they have not been able to repeat the good performance of last season when they reached the semi-finals of the tournament and were knocked out on penalties.
