The team started the match well, determined to take advantage of their dangerous chances, and established a lead with their first approach. In the 8th minute, a great move by López on the right saw him get past Fali Jimenez, cutting back for Duro to finish from close range.

Cádiz would pull back level minutes later, in a controversial action: After the first quarter of an hour, an accidental handball off a free kick hit into the wall led to a penalty being given by VAR. Rubén Alcaraz would convert from the spot.

After half an hour of play the referee elected not to give a penalty when Hugo Duro went down in the area.

Off a good recovery by the striker, the ball was left for Sergi Canós. The winger, who had scored against Rayo Vallecano and FC Cartagena with mid-range shots in recent weeks, had his effort cleared away by Fali.

In the second half Valencia CF got closer and closer to goal, and in a dizzying counterattack Canós flicked through from the touchline for López, who raced away and finished past Conan Ledesma.

Although Cádiz CF continued to push in every duel, Valencia CF played safely and without committing errors, moving the ball around with speed and having sporadic attacks. Alberto Marí, who had come on as a substitute, almost made it 1-3.

That goal would arrive in the closing moments of the match, Javi Guerra sealed the win off a counterattack following a Cádiz throw-in.

And with almost the final touch,in the 98th minute Jesús Vázquez took the score to 1-4 with a tap-in off Marí’s assist.

After a first win at the Nuevo Mirandilla since 2005. Valencia CF now shift their focus to the Copa del Rey Round of 16 match against Celta Vigo, on Wednesday at Mestalla.
