On Sunday afternoon, Spurs welcomed Wolves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for match day nineteen of the 24/25 Premier League campaign.
For the task at hand, Ange Postecoglu went for a line up of; Forster; Porro, Dragusin, Gray, Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma; Johnson, Kulusevski, Son; Solanke. Many fans were disappointed at the second consecutive exclusion of Maddison.
Within the first ten minutes of the game, Spurs once again found themselves behind, after Son's compatriot Hee-Chan Hwang opened the scoring for the visitors from just outside of the box. Groundhog day.
However, just a few minutes later - Spurs were level, with Bentancur scoring a header at the near post from a corner. Almost a carbon copy of his goal against Ipswich Town back in November. 00
Midway through the first half, Ange's side could have had their second goal, and their second from set pieces, but Dragusin's header when well placed went off target. With just over five minutes of the first half remaining, Solanke also went close with a header from a corner.
Then, with minutes of the opening period remaining, Spurs were awarded a penalty. However, the skipper stepped up and saw his penalty saved to the keepers bottom right corner, and a guilt edged opportunity had gone. His international team mate was winning the battle between the two.
However, Spurs would still go into the break 2-1 up. Nice link up between Porro and Bentancur carried the ball up the pitch, before finding Kulusevski on the edge of the box. Then, nice link up between him and Johnson lead to a cutback being fired home by the latter, to give Ange's side the lead going into the break.
Five minutes into the second half, Udogie had to be replaced, with Reguilon coming onto replace him. This was the Spanish defenders first meaningful minutes for the club since April of 2022 - with a cameo in the Carabao Cup win over Manchester United last week his only minutes of any note since then.
Around twenty minutes into the half, Ange made a triple sub. Werner, Sarr and Maddison all replaced Son, Bissouma and Johnson. With a little under ten minutes remaining, Kulusevski managed to knock the ball round Jose Sa, but his shot was cleared off the line by Santiago Bueno.
You just knew that would be costly. Fewer than five minutes later, substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen made it 2-2. Just typical. Very, very typical.
Two minutes into stoppage time, Sarr could not convert a header from close range - with the ball a bit behind him. Minutes later, Bentancur picked up an unneccessary yellow, meaning he is now suspended once again.
That would be that, and Spurs were condemned to a 2-2 draw at home. It is 2025 on Wednesday, and the game ended with a Reguilon and Werner left hand side. Miserable.
After the game, the cameras panned to Daniel Levy looking on. Wonder if he knows that he has caused all of this? Hopefully someone bought him some shame and self awareness for Christmas.
