Valencia CF's LaLiga Matchday 2 game against CA Osasuna, held away at El Sadar, ended in a 1-0 defeat, as Carlos Corberán's man fought against the tide from the 22nd minute due to a sending off of José Luís Gayà.

On their trip to Pamplona, they started out with the idea of dominating the game, using medium and high-block pressing to force the opposition into mistakes when going forward. However, nine minutes into the match, from CA Osasuna's first real chance, they took the lead with a goal from Ante Budimir. The Croatian striker headed home a cross from Rosier from the right flank.

The home side continued to insist in attack, creating several chances close to Julen Agirrezabala's goal. From one of them, the Valencia CF goalkeeper kept out a dangerous shot from Moi Gómez.

Just 22 minutes into the match, Valencia CF were reduced to ten men. A counterattack by CA Osasuna following a corner saw Gayà attempt to control the ball, but Víctor Muñoz seized the opportunity and stole possession off him. As Gayà continued his momentum, he brought down the attack and was given his marching orders.

In order to provide a presence on the wing in the absence of Gayà, Jesús Vázquez came on for Dani Raba.

Valencia CF tried to react with a ball played behind the Los Rojillos centre backs, which Diego López was unable to reach. Arnaut Danjuma created the first dangerous chance for his side with a shot from outside the box that Sergio Herrera saved, and then there were two successive corners that failed to bear fruit.

Shortly after, Valencia CF came very close to equalising. Diego López stole the ball on the right of the area and played a great low ball to Danjuma, but the Dutch striker failed to connect properly and the opportunity went astray.

After the break, the team came back out looking to turn the game around, although Osasuna were the first to rack up chances. The minutes ticked by, and the two teams became more evenly matched in possession.

During the cooling break, Corberán switched to a 4-3-2 formation and asked his players to press harder when moving forward.

Valencia CF tried until the end to turn the game around, but they went unrewarded. In the 90th minute, Danjuma seeming scored the equaliser, but it was ruled out for offside.
